BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Florida Power and Light officials are making sure senior citizens are ready for any inclement weather. At the Bay County Council on Aging, people lined up outside the door to get their very own meal kit.

We are just eleven days into hurricane season and FPL has prepared over two thousand meal kits for the hurricane season. Each person received three meal kits.

They could take some extras home for other family members who were not in attendance.
The kits contain shelf-stable meals such as protein snacks, tuna, and water.

“It feels good to show that people can make a difference in people’s lives. You know, one person at a time. And that’s what we’re out here doing today is just, again, helping these folks make sure they have a plan for their families and also to have some food on the shelf in the case that we do have a storm event.”

This is the third year of the event. During the event, Bay County Council on Aging officials also gave attendees $40 coupons for nearby farmer’s markets.
