PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — Gulf Coast State College has selected a new president.

Glen McDonald was chosen to assume the position. McDonald has an extensive business background. He was one of the top managers at ARA, a local defense contractor.

He joined Gulf Coast 4 years ago and spent a lot of his time helping recruit industry to this area and provide opportunities for Gulf Coast students.

“He was integral in making sure that we maintain Tyndall here after Hurricane Michael,” said the Board of Trustees Chairman Bill Cramer. “He has done a great job in setting policy, as well as actually being the architect of our Gulf Coast Guarantee program by which we provide students $700 a semester if they come from a local high school.”

The trustees say they didn’t take the presidential search lightly, and they’re confident in their decision.

“It is the most important decision that trustees make: the selection of a president. It’s the culmination of a very long and deliberate process of the president being the face of the college, the trustees managing the college through the president, so this is a momentous day,” said Cramer.

Trustees are committed to helping McDonald as he transitions into his new role as president.

“I think I can commit as chairman of the board on behalf of the board, that we’re going to do everything we possibly can to help them be the best president that he can be.”

In his application for the presidential position, McDonald said his main goal is to grow the college in every aspect.

The board will now negotiate a contract with McDonald. Once that’s completed, he’ll move into the president’s office.
