PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — Panama City residents can expect some landscaping upgrades for McKenzie Park.

The Downtown Improvement Board (DIB) will be taking over park maintenance from Panama City.

The park was badly damaged during Hurricane Michael and hasn’t been used much, if at all.

The DIB has been offering to help out the city for several years.

Last month they agreed to a partnership, with the CRA, to build new public restrooms.

During this morning’s DIB meeting, the city agreed to hand over park maintenance.

“We’re just going to start giving it mowing, blowing irrigation just some routine monthly type of maintenance is what we’re doing, we’re just trying to facilitate help and be a team player with the city for now,” the Downtown Improvement Board Chair Catherine Shores said.

Shores said the first thing she wants to do is repair the park’s sprinkler system, remove sick trees and shrubs, and fertilize the grass.

The DIB owns and maintains the McKenzie Gateway Park on Harrison Avenue.
