More than 300 victims identified in ‘porch pirate’ crime spree across Ontario

 South Simcoe police have identified more than 300 victims and laid additional charges in a “porch pirate” investigation that involved multiple jurisdictions.The initial investigation, according to police, began in March, resulting in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, around $90,000 of jewelry and dozens of other items being mailed and shipped. Property was recovered for victims in 16 different cities and towns across Central Ontario. The investigation involved York Regional Police, Barrie Police, Hamilton Police and Waterloo Regional Police.The crime spree saw items stolen from residential properties, hotels, as well as identity theft and fraud. Investigators carried out a search warrant at a Hamilton hotel and seized a vehicle in Innisfil, where they allegedly recovered a large quantity of stolen jewelry, clothing, watches, bank cards, government issued documents, personal mail and suspected drugs. Two individuals have been charged in connection with the investigation.
