SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WMBB) — Springfield Police are still looking for a man who’s wanted on child abuse charges.

Two weeks ago, they issued a warrant for the arrest of 38-year-old, James Waddell.

While trying to discipline his girlfriend’s child, police said Waddell severely beat the victim, bruising their buttocks, back, thighs, and arms.

That was around March 14.

Police arrested the mother, 24-year-old Kaytlynn Palmer, on March 22, charging her with child neglect for failing to report the beating.

They believed Waddell had fled to Alabama and expected him to surrender last Tuesday.

But that hasn’t happened.

“We’ve had no contact with him since early last week, right now we don’t have any additional charges besides what we’ve already issued, which is the child abuse. He does have a couple of other outstanding local warrants. And there could be additional charges from whatever happens whenever they can take him into custody,” Springfield Police Assistant Chief Russell Voyles said.

Voyles said they’ve asked for some help from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.
