BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – An arrest has been made in a burglary that happened at Merritt Brown Middle School on May 4.

After reviewing surveillance footage taken the day of the incident, footage showed the suspect walking around the school and then entering the library, even though the school was allegedly closed and locked, deputies said.

The video then showed the individual walking away from the school with a black bag around 1 am on May 5.

After authorities posted a picture of the suspect on the neighborhood’s Facebook page. The parents of 17-year-old, Carl Turpin called BCSO and said they believed it was their son in the Facebook post.

Investigators said they met with Turpin and his parents on May 14. This was when Turpin admitted that he entered the school through an unlocked door around 11:20 pm on the night of the incident, according to officials.

Authorities said Turpin stole an HP desktop computer as well as a Dell desktop monitor from the school’s library, both were recovered from Turpin’s room.

According to a news release, Turpin was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. He was charged with Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure and Petit Theft.
