BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, Florida Highway Patrol responded to the area of State Road 77 and County Road 2321.

A pickup truck driven by a 39-year-old from Westville, Florida had an unsecured load that caused a 100-gallon auxiliary diesel fuel tank to fall out of the bed of his truck. Which began spilling onto the roadway making it slick.


Fire destroys home, damages neighboring residences in Destin

According to officials, a 45-year-old male from Southport, Florida driving south on SR 77 and was unaware of the spill and drove through the area, losing control of his truck. This caused the vehicle to travel across both southbound lanes before striking the back of a vehicle, driven by a 51-year-old male from Defuniak Springs. No one was injured.

Florida Highway Patrol said State Road 77, southbound from Ball Park Road to County Road 2321 is still shut down. Officials said it will be shut down for several hours while workers are working diligently to clean up the diesel spill.

If you have to travel through the area, authorities warn you to be patient as crews are working as fast as possible to get the roadway open.
